Grandma and the Little Girl

I once met a little girl who was quite coy and insecure, but as I got to know her better, she was considerably confident and sure in many ways. She knew at an early age that God had called her to a special task, yet the assignment given was yet to be revealed. Her very existence yearned to know God and longed for His presence. As the neighborhood kids played softball outside in the field, she would look out of the window of her family's low income apartment, and from the upstairs' bedroom with her white fluffy cat name Prixie, she would ask God questions. She wanted to know if she was on His mind. Does God really see her and her mother who sacrificed much to raise her? Moreover, did God truly know what she experienced, the good and the bad? Though she was barely a teen, she inquired of God to make known His ways to her. She had many in her family who were believers in Christ, and for many years, she gained knowledge of Him vicariously through them. She and her mother rarely attended church services, but when they did, like a sponge, she soaked up everything that took place. Yes, the little girl had heard of God many times understanding at the time that God is in the sky looking down on us. Indeed that was refreshing to hear that He sits high and looks low, but could there be more to this big God in the sky? Many days when her grandmother came to visit, she would sit at her feet and listen to bible stories about the Savior Jesus. She was especially intrigued by His birth-a virgin gave birth to a Son. That is incredible! Wow, she thought as she pondered her grandmother's every word and explanation of this man named Jesus. As the little girl's grandmother expounded on the scriptures in the bible, she sensed God's peace and His strength would permeate her innermost being. After grandma finished witnessing Jesus, the little girl knew that she could do all things including healing her grandma of crippling arthritis currently known as Rheumatoid Arthritis. You see, the little girl had never seen her grandma walk. She was paralyzed from her neck down to her feet. Nevertheless, grandma believed that one day she would be healed so she taught her little girl how to pray. She would call the name Jesus often. "His name is above all names. Call Him when you are in trouble and He will come to help you", grandma would exclaim. The little girl tenaciously held onto every word her grandma said. "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus." The little girl declared healing for her grandma as she placed her hands on grandma's legs rubbing them down in the oil that grandma blessed. She would confidently say to her, "Grandma, I'm gon' lay hands on yo' legs and you are going to walk". Grandma would just smile. Then, she would prophesy to her little girl decreeing that God had given her power to lay hands on the sick and they recover. She said that God would use her mightily in the earth. Although, the little girl's understanding was dim, she often pondered the meaning of grandma's declarations. In case, you are wondering, God did not heal grandma's arthritis on this side. He healed her on the other side. She is now living with Jesus. Oh, surely she is having the best eternity ever. In fact, before grandma passed away, God graciously revealed His plan to the little girl in a dream. Isn't that just like God to prepare His children allowing them to see and know as well as accept His will for their lives and the lives of their loved ones. The little girl grew and grandma's prophecy began to unfold, and the little girl was reminded of every word. She now has her own oil, and she still calls that name Jesus over and over. She is forever grateful that God allowed her to sit at grandma's feet in childhood. Thank God for grandmas everywhere!
