"Be anxious or careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4: 6-7)
Many days have I spoken these exact words of our Lord to a people who had suffered some great trial, tribulation, or test. In some cases, trouble was not at hand. It was only perceived or anticipated. Yet, these same words of God sprang forth from my lips believing that they are noble, true, and of good report. How easy it is to preach the word of God to others. His words flow from my lips with ease giving me the ability to inspire, encourage, and confidently instill hope and peace of mind to those who are in need. However, recently, I have experienced some anxiety of my own, a trying experience in which I could not shake. No, I did not utter a word to humankind although there is a time when one should seek the counsel of man. I did; however, speak with my Lord and Savior Jesus who reminded me of how faithful He has been in the past. Although, I did not hear His audible voice, I sensed in my innermost being His presence and Him bringing to my remembrance similar situations in which I was unsure that He could handle. Those were the times I was in control or so I thought. Yes, even leaders of churches have attempted to usurp God's authority with their own. Whew! How exhausting it is to carry the burden of attempting to right the wrongs of my life without the help of my Lord. No, this recent situation was not at all as big or grand as other problems I have had. In the eyes of many, it is minuscule, very small, but in my mind, it was beginning to be gigantic. As I write, I recall Jesus' words, "In this world you will have tribulations, but be of good cheer because I have overcome the world." These words calm the soul. I have said to many, "All you have to do is give it to Jesus, and go to sleep." Indeed this is true. I just have to practice what I preach. Give it to Jesus and go to sleep. There you have it people of God. Your Pastor's Truth.
